Letters & Newsletters

Autumn 2015

Welcome to year 4

Well we have a really busy and exciting half term planned for everyone.

Firstly we would like you to know that any Year group information, including newsletters, spelling lists and homework can be found on our Year 4 page on the schools website -  Click on children on the left hand side, then on year groups and finally on Year 4. On here you will see general Year 4 information as well as links for each class.

The areas we will be covering this half term will include the following:
Literacy will start with poetry, then fiction and non-fiction writing, these all have a fairly magical theme! Maths this half term will cover place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.
We also try to make our foundation subjects as cross curricular as we can so many will involve different subject areas. The children will be learning Goldilocks in French, as well as other key vocabulary.   In RE they will be exploring Islam.  The children will be learning to play the guitar and study music appreciation this year. Computing will now be taught by the class teacher and we begin by looking at handling data.  In Geography we will be looking at Scotland and this will incorporate DT and Art after half term.

Spellings and Learning Logs will be given out every Friday and need to be in by the following Thursday. Spellings will be tested on that Thursday.  Please note this is slightly different to information in the welcome pack.

In the next few weeks, as we get to know the children better, we will be setting up some small group work for some of the children.  These groups may include intervention work for literacy and or maths, as well as guided reading groups or reading comprehension.  These would usually take place during assembly times.

Our first open classroom will be on Tuesday 20th October when you are invited to come into the classroom to look at your child's work.

However if at anytime you would like to see your child's teacher please do not hesitate, call in at the office and arrange a convenient time for both yourself and the class teacher.
