Sheringham Primary National Teaching School Alliance can provide support and training for an exciting career journey for all staff from Teaching Assistants to Headteachers.

See below for a list of our current professional learning opportunities. 

 

Teaching Assistant Support Programme (TASP)

 

The programme has been carefully designed to support both new and experienced TAs to have the best possible impact on children’s learning. The comprehensive programme takes place over 4 sessions and it covers fundamental elements including:

  • A model for supporting children which promotes independence, rather than risk ‘learned helplessness’.
  • Strategies to maximise impact throughout the whole lesson.
  • Using positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Specific techniques to use in English and Maths.

 

Delegates are required to set targets after each session to work on within school.  This ensures immediate impact back in the classroom and encourages them to share their learning with colleagues.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant Support Programme

 

HTLAs have an essential role in our schools, but often struggle to find appropriate training and development opportunities. With this in mind we have collaborated with Glyn Rawlins, who I’m sure many of you will remember from Norfolk System Leader training, to develop this highly relevant programme. Using current and relevant research HLTAs will leave at the end of the four session programme with:

 

  • Effective classroom management strategies
  • Knowledge about approaches that lead to the greatest impact
  • Greater understanding of metacognition
  • Coaching skills for peers and parents
  • Plans that promote thinking skills that can be used for short notice cover

Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification

 

Sheringham Primary National Teaching School are happy to be working in conjunction with Best Practice Network who have delivered HLTA training since it was first put in place and who have helped over 9,000 support staff gain the status. HLTA status has long been seen as a key step in progression for school support staff.

 

The two day face-to-face preparation programme explains the HLTA standards and assessment process and fully details how to put together the required portfolio of evidence. Guidance is also provided on completing the required written tasks and explains the purpose and set-up of the three-hour school assessment visit.  The two face to face preparation sessions will be on the 4th October & 22nd November 2019 at Sheringham Community Primary School .

 

The cost of the two day preparation course is £290+VAT. The cost of the school based assessment that takes place approximately 5-9 weeks after day 2 is £450.  No VAT applies to the assessment fee.  Fees are paid direct to Best Practice Network.

Great Teaching Great Learning

                          

This exciting professional learning opportunity, for teachers in all phases, uses up to date and effective strategies for developing and leading teaching and learning in the classroom. Delegates on this programme will develop the skills and confidence to support the practice of colleagues. This programme, spanning 6 weeks, replaces our previous offer of OTP.

 The programme is based around the very latest research and evidence. Elements of the programme include:

  • Developing coaching skills to impact on the learning of the children and of colleagues
  • Action planning to ensure that new learning is taken back into the classroom effectively
  • ‘Illuminating the classroom’ to gather evidence to ensure long term impact
