World Book Day - Thursday 4 March 2021
World Book Day takes place on Thursday 4th March this year, which is fast approaching!
Although we will still be in lockdown, we do not want this date to pass without the wonderful celebration that we usually have!
As we have a mixture of children in school and home, along with children from multiple year groups within one household, we have chosen to celebrate one book as a whole school. We will be exploring Here We Are, written by Oliver Jeffers. Please see the link below to a lovely read along if you wish to familiarise yourself with the text prior to the day.
Year groups shall be uploading their World Book Day tasks onto their year/class Google Classroom platforms on the day, therefore you will find the activities in the same way as usual. You will find an array of creative literacy and art activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family. As it is also World Maths day on Wednesday 3rd March, we will be linking this to the Oliver Jeffers text and you may see some introductory maths activities based on the text on Wednesday.
We always have a fantastic array of inventive costumes no matter what books have been chosen, and we hope this year will no different! As the book explores what makes our planet, who we are and how we live on it, there are lots of dress up opportunities - from animals and sea creatures to cultures and professions of the human race. Attached are some extracts of illustrations from the text, along with some costume ideas. However, please feel free to be as inventive as you wish!
On the day, there will be some extra fun activities and competitions available to your family such as; a masked reader guessing game (inspiration taken from the Masked Singer) and a family costume competition.
We are still part of the £1 book token scheme for this year. Children in school will be receiving their paper tokens as normal and for those out of school please find below the attachment for you to download and use your digital voucher. We know how much the children benefit from this so please use and enjoy.
We hope that this day will be as exciting and immersive as ever!
Please do not hesitate to contact your year group if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing all of your celebrations of the great book.
