Year 4 Homework due after half term

1) We would like you to collect old cereal boxes or similar cardboard boxes so we can create some wonderful Mayan pyramids after half term.  Please bring them next week or on the first day back after half term.

1) In RE, this week, we have been learning about the concept of a pilgrimage. We would like you to choose and research a well-known pilgrimage, in any faith or religion, and create a poster in your books, giving information on your chosen pilgrimage. You could even add some drawings or images.  

Examples could be: Lourdes or Walsingham with Christianity; the Hajj with Islam or the Gangetic plains for Buddhism.

2) Please try to complete 30 minutes of Maths Whizz.

Next week, we are going to evaluate different soups ready to make our own vegetable soup based on Scotch Broth.   Please can you investigate a traditional Scottish food.  Some examples are shortbread, haggis, oatcakes and porridge.  You could draw it, write about it, taste it and evaluate it or even make it and photograph it or bring it in for us to taste. 

 

Here is an example

Scotch Broth or Hotch-Potch

This is a rich stock made from boiling mutton (lamb), beef and marrow-bone. A range of vegetables are then added which have been cut into squares.

A handful of barley is usually also added to stock it up. Scotch broth is a thick soup that should be served piping hot.

1) In English we have been learning about Fantastic Beasts. We would like you to create your own fantastic beast! What does it look like? What are its strengths and weaknesses? What is its name? What is its M.O.M (Ministry of Magic) classification?

1) In geography, we have been investigating the famous landmarks, mountains, lochs and rivers.   Please try to convince someone to visit Scotland by creating a persuasive poster, piece of writing or Powerpoint.

  For example: Do you love climbing mountains?  Then Scotland is the place for you, it is the home of the UK’s tallest mountain Ben Nevis.

1) In English, we are beginning to look at the legend of Finn and the Scottish Giant. We would like you to research and describe character from a different Scottish myth or legend.

Brief example:

The Loch Ness Monster is the colour of disgusting, dirty muddy water, with a long, thin, windy neck. Its head is the shape of an oval with two beady eyes either side. The monster’s body is as big as a castle, with three humungous, ugly humps across it, the size of a small mountain!
