Chess Club

CHESS CLUB

 

The chess club meets every Friday lunch time from 12:30pm until 1:10pm.  We play fun and competitive games.  The school team regularly play in county competitions and tournaments, achieving many successes.

Giga Final

 

Amy L, Darcy P and Leo M travelled to Manchester to play in the Northern Giga Final on Saturday 15th July.  They played against some of the best junior players in the UK and achieved fantastic results; Darcy scored 3.5/6, Leo scored 3/6 and Amy scored 5/6.  Amy was winning her section until the last round, but came 2nd in the end.  Amy has now qualified for the Terafinal in August- a brilliant achievement. 

 

         Norwich Junior Chess Congress - 8/7/17 

 

9 Children from Sheringham Primary took part in the Norwich Junior Chess Congress. The A team won the team competition and the B team came third.

In the individual competitions; Amy L came second in the Challengers section. In the intermediate section; Darcy P, Jack H and Neve D came joint 2nd and Owen H was the top Under 9. Jacob D came joint first in the Novice section . Ruby G, Joshua D and George H all put in good performances too.

Amy L won the Norfolk Grand Prix, having the highest combined score from all the tournaments this season, and Darcy P won the special achievement prize for making the most progress over the season.

All the children were superb and enjoyed the day. They are now all looking forward to the Sheringham Junior Chess Congress in September, entry forms are available from Mr Perry for all those interested in taking part. There is a parents and grandparents section too!

UK Chess Challenge - Norfolk Megafinal

 

Eight of our pupils took part in the UK Chess Challenge Mega Final on 29/4/17.    

Under 8s:  1st. Leo M.  5.5/6

Leo, Owen, Amy and Darcy have all qualified for the national Gigafinal in July.    Well done to everyone who played and represented our school so well.

Schools' Online Chess Club

In the summer term we will be taking part in the Schools' Online Chess Club Tournament.  We have entered 2 teams.  We will play against other schools using the chesskid.com site.  The A team squad will include our year 5 and 6 pupils.  The B team squad will be made up of year 3 and 4 pupils.  Please visit the http://www.schoolsonlinechessclub.co.uk for more information.  Come back to see how we do.

UK Chess Challenge

 

We have been taking part in the UK Chess Challenge once again this year. The following children have all qualified for the Norfolk Mega Final on 29th April.

Norfolk Chess Individual Championships

Nine pupils took part in this event on Saturday 25th February.   There were some great performances:

Under 8 Champion:  Leo M.

Under 9s:   4th Toby L

Under 10s:  1st = Darcy P and Amy L.

Norfolk Schools' Championships 2017

 

The Under 11 A team came 1st, all four members of the team (Amy, Darcy, Jack and Joe) were unbeaten, each winning 4 games and drawing one, gaining a team total of 18 points out of 20, 5 points clear of 2nd place.  

 

The Under 9 team (Jacob, Joseph, Dylan and George) won their section, playing some really good chess.  

 

The Under 11 B team (Neve, Josh, Ruby and Noah) came 4th, with Ruby winning 4 out of her 5 games.  

 

We are champions of Norfolk at both under 9 and under 11 level for 2017.

Sheringham Junior Chess Congress

Saturday 17th September 2016

 

55 children from across Norfolk took part in the Sheringham Junior Chess Congress, including 8 current and 2 previous pupils from Sheringham Primary.  In the team competition, Sheringham Primary A team finished second, just a couple of points behind the winners Norwich School.  In the individual competition Amy L came second in the Under 11 section.

Sheringham Primary won the British Chess Educational Trust award for outstanding achievements in chess over the past 15 years.

Norfolk Mega Final

30th April

7 children from the chess club took part in the Norfolk Mega Final of the UK Chess Challenge.   All the children played really well and 4 have qualified for the Giga Final in Manchester.   We also came away with three large trophies!

Darcy P won the Under 9 Girls' Section with 5 wins out of 6.

Jack H won the Under 9 Boys' Section with 5 wins out of 6.

Emily L won the Under 11 Girls' Section with 6 wins out of 6.

Joe A qualified for the Giga Finals in the Under 10 Boys' Section with 4 wins out of 6.

Joshua D, Ashley M and Ewan P just missed out on qualification.

Norfolk Schools' Championships

 

Sheringham Primary entered three teams in the Norfolk Schools' Championships on Saturday 30th January 2016.  All three teams played really well.  The Under 11 A team won their section making them champions of Norfolk for 2016.  The Under 11 B team came third, an excellent performance.  The Under 9 team came 2nd in their section only losing one game.
